SSD Water Situation Report January 2015

Solent and South Downs had above average rainfall for January with 135% of the Long Term Average (LTA). The highest rainfall was recorded at both extreme ends of the area with 158% of LTA falling over the Isle of Wight and 157% over the Pevensey Levels. River flows rose this month and ranged from normal to notably high. The most significant flows were in the River Cuckmere, where flows reached the 7th highest on record for January. Groundwater levels have increased during January in Sussex and on the Isle of Wight while steadying in Hampshire. Levels range from normal to exceptionally high. The Isle of Wight recorded the 3rd highest January levels on record. Overall reservoir storage is at full capacity.
